Calling all choral and instrumental musicians entering grades 7-12

Frostburg State University Performing Arts Signs Performing Arts Center

Possible electives fall into the follow categories. Check with the registrar as to course availability.

Instrumental Arts

Brass Ensemble

All brass players are encouraged to sign up for this course. The focus of the ensemble will be to enhance the students' musicianship and skills and to encourage their use in worship.

Woodwind Ensemble

All woodwind players are encouraged to sign up for this course. The focus of the ensemble will be to enhance the students' musicianship and skills, and to encourage their use in worship.

String Ensemble

All string players are encouraged to sign up for this course. The focus of the ensemble is to enhance the students' musicianship and skills and to encourage their use in worship.

Keyboard in Worship

This class is intended for experienced piano players. You will learn techniques of hymn-playing, choosing and performing music appropriate for worship services, and how to accompany choirs. You may practice to accompany the large choir or repertory choir during this class if you volunteer or are selected.

Beginning/Intermediate Handbells

This course is designed for those who have little or no experience ringing handbells or have rung bells for a year or two. Many handbell techniques will be utilized and the choir will perform at least once during the week.

Advanced Handbells

This course is designed for ringers who have been ringing at an advanced level for some time Students will be practicing very challenging pieces on three or four octaves of handbells, depending on the size of the class. (Indicate your experience on the registration form.)

Guitar Classes (Basic and Intermediate/Advanced)

These classes are for those interested in playing the guitar. Various levels of experience will be represented. The classes meet at the same time, so appropriate placement can be made. Students will need to furnish their own guitar. They will also need to bring picks and replacement strings as they will not be available on campus. Bring your own guitar music if you have it.

Praise Band

In this class you will practice and learn music to be used in our worship services. Experienced players of these instruments are welcome: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboard (piano). Drum players need to bring their own drum set.
